Advanced questions explained

Overview:

This article explains the different “Advanced” question types.  If you’re looking for detail on any of the following, please see one or more of the articles below:

 

“Advanced” question types explained:

To access the advanced question types and add a new question, click on the “+” in the top left, then click on “Advanced”, and then select a question type. Select the question type you want to use and Survey Builder will automatically create a new container with your chosen question type inside it.


 

 

Within the “Advanced” questions menu, there are the following options:

Question Type

Definition

Click Text Highlighter

Shows the respondent text and allows them to highlight what they do and do not like in what they are reading.

Buttons

Offers an alternative to a standard list by showing the respondent tiles or buttons.

HotSpots - Highlighter

Also known as a heatmap, this question type shows the respondent an image and allows them to highlight what they like in what they are seeing.

Carousel

A “Scrolling Grid” or “Carousel” offers a different way of asking grid questions. When the respondent selects an answer, the next item pops-up.

Slider

Allows the respondent to drag across a slider to their desired answer choice.

IRT Card

Implicit Response Test (IRT) forces a respondent answer within a few seconds of seeing the option.

Essay

Provides a bigger text box and encourages the respondent to provide a more detailed answer by showing a progress bar below the open text box.

Numeric Slider

A slider for questions with bigger scales e.g. 0-10 or 1-7. 

Video Player (Wistia)

An option for displaying videos to respondents. Wistia has hosting fees.

Video Player (YouTube)

An option for displaying videos to respondents. YouTube does not have hosting fees.

Video Player (Vimeo)

An option for displaying videos to respondents. Vimeo has hosting fees.

Rating Slider

Allows the respondent to see a full rating scale and answer the question by dragging the slider to the relevant number. 

Multiple OEs

Provides the respondent with the ability to select answer choices and write in a comment about that answer choice. Useful for questions such as unprompted brand awareness.

Open End (textarea)

Provides a space for an open-ended question where the respondent can enter text.

Numeric Sum

Provides the ability to sum answer choices into a total amount.

Search Answer List (SAL)Can program a list where the respondent starts to type and it prompts with a suggestion(s).
RankingAllows the respondent to click into the boxes to rank the answer choices rather than having to enter numbers themselves.

Searchable Answer List (SAL) Allows the respondent to select an answer from prompts after they beging to type a response



Ranking Allows the respondent to click into the boxes to rank the answer choices rather than having to enter numbers themselves.
