Please note that for the majority of Platform users, they will treat containers as questions and only add one, rather than deal with sub-questions. This is perfectly fine.
However should you require finer control over the way you ask questions then this will explain the advanced functionality.
When you add an element you are actually adding a container which can hold any number of questions.
- The name you assign e.g. Q1 is for the container.
- A container must house at least one question.
- Each question in the container can be of a different type, e.g. single select, multi select or grid, for example, but they will all share the same answer list.
- Editing the list in one question will update across all questions in the container.
- Each question in the container is called a "sub-question", and are labelled in the following format:
- Q1.a = sub-qestion 1
- Q1.b = sub-question 2
- Q1.c = sub-question 3 etc.
- For individual questions like gender or age, there may only be one question in the container.
- However, for questions where the user wants the answer choice list to be exactly the same for a series of questions, the container will do this automatically.
- This is designed to be useful for common questions in shopper or path-to-purchase studies. It will also help users to create a brand funnel series.

Containers in action:
The first example shows a container “Colour” with a single question housed within it.

The second example shows what the display looks like for a container “P2P_Set” with more than one question housed within it. This shows how a user might use this for a mutli-punch question asking about likability and a follow-on single choice question about a favourite:
