Apply a Filter in Charts & Visuals

Video Guide to Chart: https://youtu.be/qfQKcmd5Me4

Filtering a chart is quick and easy.

For example, lets take the chart below and filter it to show only Females.

1. Select the chart(s) you want to filter and click on Options.

2 Select the category Bases and documentation.

3. Write a name for the filter in Filter description.

4. In Filter definition, open the filter builder and create your filter.

The "filter builder" window opens. This is a step by step wizard to help you create the filter you want.

5. Find the question you want to use as your filter. You can search via search box or scrolling the list.

6. Select the categories (answer codes) you want to use.

7. Select Add to Visual

  • Note that it will tell you the total sample in your filter as you create it.
  • If you want to combine questions in your filter, repeat steps 5-7.

As you build it your filter will appear in the Visual section.

As you build your filter the number of cases within the filter is shown in the View Total section.

8. Click Save.

NB: "Add to Advance" (bottom left above) can be used to open the syntax builder rather than the visual builder. You can also switch from the visual view to the syntax view by clicking "Edit in Advanced " (middle right above). Note that you cannot switch back to the visual view from the advanced view. If you accidentally click on advanced, please start over.

9. Give your filter a name in the description box (optional, but useful). Click Set options to return to your filtered chart.

The chart will automatically be updated with the filter documentation in the title.
