Create a Target Group in Dig

The first step in using the Dig tool is to set up your target group. 

 

The target group defines the specific subset of respondents from your project that you wish to explore for correlations. 

 

Example - you may want to explore differences by gender, brand preference, occupation type, etc. 



 

1. Select Set target group



2. This opens the 'filter builder' wizard. 

 

Follow the numbered steps in the wizard. Begin with selecting the question that you wish to use to define the population that you wish to explore.

  • Scroll to your question. If your questionnaire is a large one you can search for the question by typing a search term into the search field.




3. Select the responses to your chosen question for use in defining your population

  • Select as many as needed.
  • The total number of cases and what percentage of the total number of cases is shown in the lower right corner of this section as you make your selections for reference.

 

4. Click Add to Visual when you have selected the desired responses.

  • You can click Add to Advanced if you prefer working with the filter syntax directly.

 


Repeat steps 2-4 as needed to select all responses needed to define the population.


5. The selected response(s) are shown in the Visual section of the wizard.


When you have multiple responses selected you can use the icons in the visual section to add parentheses to clarify your logic and/or use the plus icon to select AND/OR logic for responses. 

Use the X at the right to remove a response from your population definition. The example below defines a group that is Female AND lives in the East region.


6. View the total number of cases and what percentage of the total number of cases as you define your filter. 

Once your are done defining your population click Save.




With the target group defined you can now go on to selecting the questions to explore in Dig.
