What is Walr 'Dig' Analysis and How Do You Create One?

What is Dig?


Dig is a special analysis included in the Walr Analysis & Reporting tool. 

It is a correlation tool that gives hints about where potential interesting data can be found in the project. 

The analysis will give you all categories in the data set that are significantly higher or lower than the total population contained within your filtered data. 

The analysis uses the Chi2-significance test, and you can see in the report how statistically significant the categories differ from the total.


How to Run a Simple Dig Analysis


Setting up a Dig analysis is easy.


Starting from within the Dig tab ... 


  1. Specify a target group using the filter builder (see Cross Table Filter Builder article).
  2. From the question list on the left, select the questions you want to analyze and drag them into the drop area
  3. The Dig analysis will automatically appear according to your specifications.
  4. You may set display options
  5. Dig analyses can be exported to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


An output is generated similar to the above. 


Interpreting the results from Dig


The example above looks at those aged 15-39 as the target group against the total sample as well as all those in the non-target group (in this example those aged 40+). 

The significance level is Chi-2 sig-testing showing where those aged 15-39 are significantly different from the total. 

The conditional formatting in the target group column shows what matters more (green), less (orange), and in the middle (yellow) to the target group.


From this, we can say that "15-39-year-olds in Norway want to see an improvement in economic conditions for families. However, they care a lot less about placing limitations on immigration than older Norwegians do."
