Sorting Q Tables

Sorting a Q Table can help bring data to the attention of your audience by placing the most important data in the order you need it in.

Sorting options can also help remove data that isn't helpful in the chart such as don't know or decline to answer types of responses.

Sorting Q Tables

Let's use the following table to illustrate the sorting options.

Under Options select the Sorting category.

Sort column: Determines which column to sort on. Selecting zero will turn sorting off. Selecting column 1 will sort our table.

Exclude: What rows should be excluded from being sorted. Counted from the bottom.  In our original table we might want to exclude the "City Break" from our sorting. To do this we would set Exclude to 1, giving us this chart.

Notice that the excluded responses are at the bottom and not sorted.

Sorting Value: A drop down menu lets you select what value in the cell you wish to sort on.

Direction: Choose Ascending or Descending from the pull down menu. The default is sorting in ascending order.

Sort maximum: What number of rows do want in your sorted table? Select the number. Note that any excluded rows will be added to that number at the bottom of the table.

Example

Let's create an example.

Suppose we wanted to have a maximum of 4 rows sorted from highest to lowest and exclude the last row from the sort. We would use the settings shown below.

With those settings made we get this table:

Using Sort Maximum it would be easy to build top 10 topline tables!
